Following Atalanta’s disappointing 1-1 draw against Salernitana, Mario Gasperini was discouraged by his side’s display at the Gewiss Stadium this evening.

A lack of defensive organization have allowed I Granata to take the lead within the first half hour as Ederson was left alone within the box and slid in order to send Milan Djuric’s headed pass into the back of the net.

Despite having a lack-lustre display within the final third of the pitch, Ruslan Malinovski dispensed a magnificent through ball for Mario Pasalic, who buried the ball into the bottom low-corner to seal a point within the 88th minute if play.

With only three games remaining within the Serie A campaign, Atalanta currently sit in seventh place with a total of 56 points, three points behind Mourinho’s Roma. With Gasperini’s side only managing to obtain five points of 15 available within their last five fixtures, it seems like Atalanta’s hopes of Europa League next season are slowly vanishing.

Following La Dea’s underwhelming draw at home, Gasperini spoke to Sky Sport Italia about his side’s overall performance this evening: “We are a team that is trying to give everything we have, we can’t blame them much for that. For the rest, though, we’re drained of spirit and that’s the thing I’m most sorry about, because we’ve always been strong in that regard.

“We’ve straightened out the game and we’re fighting until the end, but it’s clear that we don’t have the same spirit and intensity. Salernitana have goals, but even the last teams we’ve met have shown more than us.

“Because we are sterile, we play to win but we concede avoidable goals at the first opportunity. We always have to chase, that’s one reason but there are others too.

With only nine points available until the season concludes, Gasperini hopes that his men can bore fruit from the soil as his side are set to face Spezia in a vital fixture Sunday afternoon.
